life update:

Not much for an update from the past two weeks I’m afraid, it’s generally because I have done absolutely nothing! I knew moving into my new halls would be hard, but it’s actually been a lot harder than I thought. I get invited to the common room and the few times I have gone it feels like no one actually wants to be friends with me and I end up hiding in the toilet or leaving early. Anyone got any tips on not being so bloody shy?!

ONE.
This is my friend Karel stood on a frozen canal. We went on a walk and found some people ice skating, and I told him I’d never stood on natural ice. So of course, as soon as we came across the next canal he went jumping on it and I sat at the side convinced I’d have to ring the emergency services and that he’d go through. Then he made me get on and I just held on to the side clinging on for dear life. He ended up scaling the canal on his stomach. The next day, it had snowed on the ice so he got on another canal and drew a penis, much to the shock of an elderly American couple walking past. It’s probably not a surprise considering this guy is his Uncle.

TWO.
I bought an oven this week too! It seems so sad! It was a big shock arriving in the Netherlands and realising that my kitchen was one hob and a fridge. No freezer, no microwave, no oven! I would not have stood for it in the UK! I’m so happy I can have more kinds of different foods now, I was getting sick of sandwiches.

THREE.
The chips here are with satay sauce, which is something I’ve only seen here in the Netherlands. They were the perfect hangover cure! Shame it was quite difficult to order with my Brummie accent….

FOUR.
My Dutch friend cooked for a few of us the other night, a proper Dutch meal. I can’t usually eat mashed potato but I could have eaten that all day and night.
