The lovely Alice who blogs over here tagged me in a Money Supermarket tag about Bucket Lists the other day and I thought I'd have a crack at it! Why not? All you have to do is let them know two things you want to do before you kick the bucket - one extravagant item and one budget item! The full rules are here.
I have a list of things I want to do before I reach thirty, and a lot of them are pretty budget! Although I really really hope that I don't have just eight years to complete my bucket list, I thought it would make sense to at least pick one of those! For this purpose, I really want to spend a day being a tourist in my own city - visiting the Birmingham Back to Backs, spending some serious time in the Birmingham Art Museum, going down to the Jewellery Quarter (and the pen museum because I just don't understand how there can be a museum about pens), wondering along the canals and around the grounds of Aston Hall and the University. I love Birmingham, but I don't plan on living here much longer and I reckon it'd be great to spend a day as a tourist and fall in love all over again when I still have the chance! Another item on my list is to have a curry in the Balti Triange, and I'd incorporate this into my touristy day too. I honestly have tried many curries in many different parts of England, but they've never even come close to any curry I've ever had in Birmingham. The Balti was invented in Birmingham, and yet I've never been to the Balti Triange - the curries are supposedly amazing and also a lot cheaper than your average take away. With train tickets into the city centre, admission into the Back to Backs (everywhere else is free) and a curry the whole day would only cost around £25. Cracking.
One of the items that isn't so budget is that I'd love to stay in a five star hotel - and so my extravagant bucket list item is to head to Amsterdam and stay in an amazing hotel. I know I bang on about Holland a lot, but I really miss the friends I made there, and so if I stayed in a great hotel, I know I'd be able to combine this bucket list item with also seeing some of the people I really miss. I'm looking into going back anyway in September, but at the moment I can't even afford a hostel let alone a five star hotel! I've moaned a lot about being back in England ever since I moved back and I've said how much I miss Holland and it's difficult to explain how much going back would mean to me, being able to see my old friends and being able to just spend some time back in that lovely country would be great - done in a five star hotel overlooking the canals with a nice comfy bed to come back to after some serious catching up and exploring wouldn't go amiss either! Hopefully I'll find someone to employ me soon and it won't be too hard!
I'm tagging Beeta, Hannah and Amber! The competition finishes on the 2nd of August! Let me know what's on your bucket list and link me to your entries!
ps, I have noticed writing this post how much I just cannot spell the word 'extravagant'
pps, Is it sad I can remember exactly where I was when I watched the film the Bucket List?
